Urgent Licensing Matter

Dear Fellow Massage Therapist,

Your State Massage Therapy Licensure Act 23-20.8 is in jeopardy. A group of
Representatives has introduced a change to your State License Law that would
make it more difficult for you to practice in Rhode Island. It is imperative we all
act quickly and flood our local Representative with letters expressing our outrage
and concern to this proposed change. Please! don’t sit back complacently in your
quiet massage room waiting for someone else to take care of this problem for
you. If we don’t all act on this NOW your wonderful quiet room may be closed at
the discretion of your local town. We need strength in numbers.

The proposed addition to our Act states reads:

(h) Notwithstanding the above, any city or town may, by ordinance, regulate the
opening, the presence, the location, and the operation of any massage business or
massage parlor located or operating within the municipality, including those
businesses and parlors offering licensed massage therapy or unlicensed
massage services, sometimes referred to as “body works.”

I have attached a letter approved by AMTA Government Relations that you may
use as is, or edit to add your personal story. Please sign it and send a copy to
your Representative. Please go to https://sos.ri.gov/vic/ to find the email address
of your local Representative and Senator.

You may also receive an email from National AMTA Government Relations office
Edward Jerzyk. He is forwarding you the same information. I am sending this to
you in case that email goes to your spam. It is very important we take action
NOW.

If you have question please don’t hesitate to contact me at JLozy123@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Joanne Lozy, LMT
RI AMTA Government Relations
Immediate Past President
