As you know, the opioid crisis is widespread throughout our country, especially within our own state of Rhode Island. While there is arguably no single “silver bullet’ that can adequately address this epidemic, it is vitally important to recognize the value of including evidence based, complementary, non- pharmacological alternatives to the treatment of pain that can mitigate the potential for over-reliance on opioids to address chronic pain conditions. We know the benefits of massage, as do our clients. Our profession has been singled out as one non-pharmacological approach to pain, supported by the growing body of clinical research, by the American College of Physicians, the Federation of State Medical Boards and the Joint Commission.
